Captain James Fall (pronounced Faw), MP for Haddington Burghs (1734–1742), in Scotland. Born c.1700. One of four brothers who built a mercantile empire centred on Dunbar, he was apprenticed to an Edinburgh merchant becoming Burgess and Guild brother there in 1675. As MP he would probably be equally as well described as representing the interests of the family co-partnery. The family dominated Dunbar town council where James' career continued; he served as bailie (magistrate) from October 1735 until his death. Resided Dunbar (now Lauderdale) House, which he had built, at the north end of Dunbar High Street. Married Jean Murray and had a daughter, Janet. Buried at Dunbar 9 December 1743.
